Apple has finally produced an iPhone that will compete head to head with the Samsung Galaxy

 Oct 23, 2014    iPhone news & reviews

Apple’s latest incarnation of their famous iPhone brand is the iPhone 6 and the bigger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. Apple has finally succumbed and produced an iPhone that will compete head to head with the Samsung Galaxy with regards screen size. Many consumers are after the larger screen size to perform their daily tasks, and despite the late Steve Jobs’ comment regarding Apple moving up to that size of screen, they finally have.

Thus, the screen is the biggest difference between the previous generation and this. The screen om the iPhone 6 is a 4.7 inch, 1,136 by 640 Retina display with a pixel density of about 326 ppi and on the iPhone 6 Plus the screen size is 5.5 inch, 1920 x 1080 with a pixel density of about 401 ppi.  Its screen is bright, and lush with vibrant colours, and has the industry standard ion strengthened glass, comparable to Android devices. This allows for a standard 6 rows of icons, plus the bottom standard row of fixed icons. This is perhaps the biggest difference between the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6. The market has been trending to larger screens for a while, and Apple has finally taken notice.

The other big improvements have come in the camera, which features a better lens, optical image stabilization, improved tone mapping, and better noise level reduction in low light level situations. In the video front, there’s a slow motion videoing at 240 frames per second to really get some great slo-mo videos of high speed action.

There has been a great deal of concern about the structure of the device (particularly the larger iPhone 6 Plus), and the ‘Bendgate’ scandal. As with many so called scandals, any problems or issues have just been with a select few models, but thanks to social media and the like, things often get blown out of proportion. Apple have actually responded to the ‘bending phones’ by stating that only 9 complaints were made in the first week of sales. Out of the countless millions of phones sold in that time, 9 bent phones is hardly a thing to worry about. Besides, keeping phones in the back pocket, and then sitting on them isn’t the most intelligent thing to do!

This has led to many review sites performing their own bend tests on the iPhone 6 and comparing them to their closest rivals. From many of the tests done, it seems the Samsung range is the toughest in terms of bending, with the iPhone being above average. From these tests alone, you can see that the bending issue isn’t a really a big deal.
