iPhone Upgrades: 3 Important Steps to Take Before You Buy

Oct 5, 2017    iPhone tips  iPhone 8 upgrade

When a new iPhone gets released, there are typically two schools of thought: there’s the school of people who don’t see a reason to upgrade, and there are those who are excited to get the new tech in their hands. Being in either school is fine, and the thrill of getting something new as soon as it comes out is completely understandable! When you live in a city like Cardiff, it’s even harder to avoid that temptation when everybody is walking around with their brand-new phones and the advertisements are unavoidable. But if you’re one of those people who just has to have the latest device, we have a few steps that we recommend you take before you put your iPhone 8 or iPhone X on hold.

So, here’s the low-down on the procedure you should follow before, or more accurately around the same exact time as, you get the new iPhone 8 or iPhone X. We’ll cover it all from your valuable information to getting your iPhone screen repaired. Read on!

  • 1.Back up all of the information on your phone that you don’t want to lose. Almost everybody has sentimental photos and videos that they don’t want to disappear, and an address book that would be a serious pain to have to re-create. Lucky for us Apple users, the process of backing up your phone is so simple that you don’t have to do anything in most cases. iCloud does it for you! Gone are the days of plugging your phone into your computer and dragging files around! If you have a MacBook, the process is even easier as iPhoto saves all of your photos. However, these features aren’t perfect and don’t always automatically work properly, or sometimes a setting gets accidentally turned off. So, double check in iCloud that everything you want backed up has been backed up. Then, when you get a new phone, you can restore everything to that device in just a few moments.
  • 2.Spend money to make money.Even though the iPhone 6 and 7 and their various models have now become old news, there are still people out there who would love to buy your phone off you. But, if you’re like many people who decide after just a few months of having a new phone that you don’t need to bother with a case or screen protector, your screen is probably in need of a little help. By spending a little bit of money to get that iPhone 7 screen repaired at our repair shop here in Cardiff, you can get over £400 more for your used phone than if you sold it with a broken screen.

The fact that iPhone 7 Plus phones sell for about £100 with a broken screen and £520 when they’re in good condition shows that people don’t want to buy a phone and then have to fix it themselves. So, if you’re thinking that you’ll save money or time by not having to go and get an iPhone 7 Plus screen repair and that the buyer can do it yourself, you’re wrong. Get that screen fixed first and you’ll get a much higher return on investment!
  • 3.Sell your phone.Or, if you’re feeling philanthropic, donate it! There are numerous ways to sell your phone. The highest return on investment seems to be with online direct selling sites like eBay and Facebook sales pages. However, with these there’s a bit of a risk associated. This is more-so with eBay or anything that involves selling and shipping directly to the customer, though, so if you’re going that road, be cautious and only sell to people who have a good and extensive reputation. If you’re meeting somebody in person, or selling to a company, the risk is extremely minimal. There are businesses out there that specialize in purchasing old phones for recycling, or purchasing them to re-sell them yourself. You will take a profit cut here, but the upside is that selling is quick, easy, and finding a buyer is guaranteed. So, weigh the pros and cons for your situation and see what’s best for you!
